A new live-work house for a carpenter on the edge of a Somerset village.  Our brief is to design a modest 3 bedroom house and workshop with views across the fields to the east.  The house is positioned to be mainly hidden from the road behind an existing thick hedge.  The end walls will be angled so that the views out to the landscape from the two gateways off the road will be preserved.

The house is being designed to Passivhaus standard,  There are very few openings except on the south-east elevation which will be fully glazed.  The roof will overhang the glazing to provide solar shading in the summer.  The form of the house is a single volume with shallow pitched roofs, similar in scale and massing to the agricultural sheds on near-by farms..
